Re-test Procedures: 

Repairs may be conducted by anyone.  Only labor from Recognized Repair Technicians counts towards emission waiver minimums.  Repair Data Sheet must be filled out for retest.  Retests free for 20 business from initial failure days (excluding weekends and federal holidays).    Vehicle must pass retest or receive a waiver to be registered.

Electronic verification of inspection results required of licensing facility.

OBDII Test:  requires gasoline powered vehicles to have ‘Supported’ O2 and Catalytic Converter monitors or will fail test

 

Mileage Exemptions:

  • Allowed for cars within two years of model year if driven less than 40,000 miles
  • Allowed for cars of any age if driven less than 12,000 miles between required safety inspections.

Waivers:

Repair: 

Qualified repairs must be made; considered those diagnosed as causing test failure, and so should eliminate DTC

$450 in parts and labor if work done by shop employing Missouri Recognized Repair Technician (MRRT is ASE certified :  A6, A8, L1)

 

$450 in parts alone if done at non-MRRT shop 

 

$400 in EPA qualified parts if owner does repair themselves

Financial:

$200 in qualified repairs if on permanent disability
